The much anticipated Tesla Powerwall is making its debut in the sunburnt country! That’s right, the lucky people of Australia will be the first country to receive the battery unit that is capable of powering your entire house!
Tesla, which is best known for its Model S and Model X electric cars is launching under the banner of Tesla Energy, which will be providing both domestic Powerwall and industrial Powerpack energy solutions to the country.
Tesla is all about making the world around us cleaner by reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. Being able to effectively store the energy produced by solar PV systems should facilitate an increase in the uptake of solar panels throughout the country as more people see the value in getting off the grid.
The Powerwall is a lithium-ion rechargeable battery designed to store power at a residential level for back-up power, load shifting, and self-consumption of solar power generation. The device itself consists of a battery and a cooling system that can be wall mounted, and connected to the local power grid if desired.
Elon Musk has earmarked the device as a crucial step in revolutionizing the world’s energy system and with the recent removal of one of the government’s biggest climate denier’s in Tony Abbott we may just start to see some real progress towards the adoption of renewable technology.
